In a press conference held at the FACTOR offices earlier this morning, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages Shelly Glover, and MP for Etobicoke-Lakeshore Bernard Trottier announced that the Government of Canada would be investing $1.3 million in support to the industry through the Canada Music Fund’s Music Entrepreneur component.
The announcement revealed the details surrounding this $1.3 million investment into fostering and strengthening the music industry, “ensuring the production and promotion of diverse Canadian music by new, emerging and established Canadian artists”. (Press Release).
- CIMA will receive $445,000 from the Canada Music Fund’s Music Entrepreneur component during the 2014-2015 fiscal year.
- CIMA member Arts & Crafts will be receiving $550,000.
- And lastly, CIMA member Last Gang Records will be receiving $374, 790.
“The Canadian Independent Music Association is grateful for the financial contributions made by the Government of Canada through the Canada Music Fund.” said CIMA President, Stuart Johnston.”This fund makes it possible for CIMA to offer the critical business support programs and export initiatives that its 230 members can leverage into building and strengthening the Canadian music industry, both at home and abroad.”
