CIMA Wraps Up Another Successful Mission to MIDEM 2016!

CIMA returned to the south of France from June 3-6, 2016 to participate in the 50th year of MIDEM.

CIMA returned to the south of France from June 3-6, 2016 to participate in the 50th year of MIDEM. This marked the thirty-sixth year CIMA has participated in MIDEM and the seventh year CIMA has presented Canadian Blast showcases at one of the world’s largest gathering of international talent and music buyers.

This year the Canada Stand, which relocated within the International area of the trade show, provided business services and support to English and French Canadian companies looking to forge new business connections, compete globally, promote and launch their music on the international stage, sign revenue-generating deals and increase their knowledge of market factors/developments that shape the future of music.

In total, the Canada Stand registered 22 delegates and 18 companies: Alma Records, Aporia Records, Artic Records, Backstage Productions Int’l/SongSplits, C2P Inc /Cymba Music Publishing, Conveyor Canada, Dance Plant Records, Dare to Care Records, Justin Time Records/Wild West Artist Management, More Music Management, Musik Iz The Motive Entertainment, Northstarr Entertainment, Pipe and Hat, Stony Plain Records, Thomson Gabriele and YUL Hub/Slippers Studios.

CIMA and Canada Stand companies had the opportunity to meet France’s new Minister of Culture Audrey Azoulay and her entourage who stopped by to discuss how Canadians were using the opportunity at MIDEM.

On Friday, June 3, Canadian companies participated in “Meet the Canadians”, a speed dating session held at the Networking Village from 5:00PM-7:00PM where they met delegates from around the globe.

On Friday night, Morrison’s Pub hosted the Canadian Blast Jam for an evening of hip-hop music. Performances included iLLvibe, Preetam Sengupta, D’eve Archer, Myer Clarity, Andrew Green and DJ Speed.

On Saturday, June 4, Canadian Blast continued the festivities at Morrison’s Pub with performances by Sherlock, Apryll Aileen, Michie Mee, D.O. and Sunrise and Good People. Both evenings included memorable performances from talented Canadian artists in front of a packed venue of music fans and MIDEM delegates.

While numerous strikes in France seemed to threaten the viability of MIDEM this year, fortunately there were many international delegates for the Canadians to meet with and conduct business.
