CIMA Board of Directors: 2020-23 Nominees

CIMA is pleased to announce the following Board of Directors nominees for the 2020-2023 term.

As an update to the presentation of the slate, incumbency and committee participation within the last three years will be noted. In lieu of bios, nominees were asked to provide a short mission statement answering: “Why do you wish to sit on CIMA’s Board of Directors?”.

Voting will take place prior to our Annual General Meeting on Thursday, October 15, 2020 on Zoom (3:00 PM to 4:00 PM EDT).

CIMA voting level members (Class A, B & C) are eligible to vote.

Stu Anderson

Mission Statement: As an artist manager and record label owner proudly based in Manitoba, my aim is to bridge the gap that exists between CIMA + industry in this area of the country, helping CIMA better represent national interests of their membership. I run growing companies that represent a roster of artists who are building fanbases both domestically and internationally, and it would be great for this majority central-Canadian community to have a voice at CIMA. I also recognize that by participating in the board, our companies would be better networked with industry in important music centres (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, etc). I have previous board experience via a term on the board of Arts Northwest (www.artsnw.org), and Manitoba Music (www.manitobamusic.com) where I am currently on the executive board. Jeff Beaulieu

Hopeful Tragedy Records

Mission Statement: I am an artist entrepreneur, who managed to develop a real DIY ethos and expertise in seceral fields of the industry. Being Hopeful Tragedy Records owner, Upper Room Church Studio co-owner and HTR publishing founder. I’m highly influenced by the likes of Ian MacKaye (Fugazi/Dischord) and Brett Gurewitz (Bad Religion/Epitaph) My fan-to-fan vision and passion led YFE, Alex Henry Foster and Sef Lemelin to become international acts, Juno and ADISQ nominees. I am also the Vice-Chair of the IMMF since September 2019, and I’ve been s speaker at SXSW, Big Sound, Reeperbahn, Poland Music Week, HPX and a few more…


Peter Cardinali (Incumbent)

President – Alma Records 

Committee Participation: Export Development, Gala & Awards, Ontario Advisory, Executive

Mission Statement: I’ve served four terms on CIMA’s board of directors, recently as chair of the Export Committee. I also sit on the OMDC advisory board. As a successful session musician, composer, arranger, producer, record label owner and publisher, I feel the board can benefit from my years of experience on both the creative and business sides, and as a solid voice for the independent music community. This has been a very challenging year for all sectors of the industry, but I do believe we can work together to create some interesting opportunities.


David Cox

President – CLK Creative Works

Committee Participation: Industry Development, R3 (MusicOntario Advisory Committee)

Mission Statement: I wish to contribute to the board because I believe I can bring a fresh creative outlook. Also, opportunity for me share my perspective on existing issues and goals that could help CIMA, along with overall industry. Lastly, I would bring passion, energy, network, and expertise to the table that could benefit the organization.

Mission Statement: I have 17+ years of experience working at the leading independent Canadian record company – eOne Music – as Label Manager and now Director of A&R. I have a grant writing company that has helped countless independent labels and artists secure funding. I run and own my own independent black-owned label and publishing company – FORESEEN. www.foreseenent.com


Gord Dimitrieff (Incumbent)

Aporia Records

Committee Participation: Government Affairs, Executive

Mission Statement: I have been an entrepreneur in the independent music industry my entire professional career, and am a great believer in the global strength of independent rights owners.

I have a strong background in industry advocacy, and a keen understanding of broadcaster economics and their relationship to our industry’s fortunes; I also founded one of the only open-source initiatives for exchanging DDEX and CWR metadata, which has given me a comprehensive and global perspective on the data issues facing our industry.

I believe I can make a valuable contribution to CIMA’s governance and strategic direction in the immediate future.


Mathieu Drouin (Incumbent)

Mission Statement: I wish to continue as a CIMA board member to advocate for the interests of indie labels and publishers like me, as well as for those of the artists we work with or manage, including Metric, Half Moon Run, Grimes and Purity Ring (and those like them). I am particularly interested in helping to navigate the ongoing challenges of an ever-evolving digital music landscape and believe that my 20+ years of experience as a technology entrepreneur and investor (including exits to Spotify and Apple) compliments my music industry skillset and positions me well to add value great to the organization.



Devi Ekanand

VP Marketing – Coalition Music

Mission Statement: I’m hoping that with an appointment on CIMA’s Board that I can be of assistance moving the organization to be more inclusive in not only their programming but their lobbying efforts for our Industry. Working closely with artists, labels, and promoters over the last 25 years, I feel that my varied experiences in Management, Marketing, Live Events, Record Label & Mentorship would be an asset to the board. The global industry is changing and evolving every day, we need our trade association to be at the forefront of these challenges and advocate policies and services that serve the growing Indie sector.


Andy Hawke

Senior Project Manager/A&R – Anthem Records

Mission Statement: I’m determined to sit on the board to add my efforts in advocating for progressive change and equal opportunity across the industry.

The Canadian music community is vibrant, diverse and evergreen with unique talent. While the industry has made positive strides to pivot towards inclusivity, I do feel the new energy and passion that I can bring will be a valuable asset to the Board’s mandate.

I’m committed to proactively levelling the playing field on barriers to entry and opportunities for artists, workers and businesses of every level. Let’s continue to push towards building a stronger community for all.

Mission Statement: I would like to join the Board to serve as a black community leader and bring a diverse voice to some of the current challenges the Canadian music industry is facing in 2020+. I have a strong track record in my current operating roles as Founder/Director of More Music Management & CFO of HipHopCanada Digital etc. as well as, and financial management from last 2 years as: ie. Treasurer of Manifesto Community Projects & Royalty consultant at AFM/CFM Union. 

I believe my experience, as well as ability to listen, question and source solutions would be advantageous to the organization overall.

As a pioneer in emerging technologies, I am ranked Top 5 internationally by Thinkers360 and will accelerate CIMA member opportunities to learn, grow and increase monetization options. I have 20+ years technology industry Board of Directors’ experience, and global network of technology industry executive connections to benefit CIMA becoming an emerging technology leader in the music industry.

Jill Snell

Mission Statement: 30 years of industry experience and the last 16 with independent labels that I have launched or in mgmt. Two of my clients are now touring in/have teams in Europe/UK and I feel I have solid knowledge to share from this experience and a strong desire to learn from the diverse people I would interact with while serving on your board. I was on the CCMA BoD for 10+ years and was a motivated contributor during my tenure. I specialize in the country market but also have pop and roots clients. I wish to contribute more to the indie community!

Mission Statement: I’ve had the pleasure of being part of CIMA’s board for many years and would very much like to continue to serve in such capacity. I’m fully dedicated to the protection and development of the global independent music eco-system, including ensuring a level playing field for all. As a current member of the CIMA board’s executive, continued work as Chair of the board of the Worldwide Independent Network (WIN), and experience and ongoing dedication on the boards of directors of MERLIN, ADISQ, and FACTOR, I believe I have the necessary tools to provide value as a CIMA board member.
