The Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA) took over Queen’s Park yesterday – bringing the interests of our Ontario-based members directly to our government representatives in Toronto.

The full day of meetings involved the Honourable Michael Coteau, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Members of Provincial Parliament and staff. CIMA’s delegation proudly represented independent music in Ontario, discussing issues of importance such as the Ontario Music Fund, and the province’s Cultural Strategy. We also provided our political representatives with first-hand accounts of the state of the business for Ontario’s Canadian-owned music companies, and how our artists and our companies are adapting to a constantly changing environment.

CIMA’s delegation included CIMA President Stuart Johnston, Six Shooter Records’ (and CIMA Chair) Shauna de Cartier, Last Gang Entertainment’s Chris Moncada (CIMA Board Member), artist Hawksley Workman, and CIMA Research & Communications Coordinator Lisa Fiorilli.

In addition to meeting with representatives to discuss our members’ interests and challenges, CIMA’s delegation also had the opportunity to attend Question Period, where they were introduced and welcomed by Minister Coteau and other MPPs.

If you have any questions/comments about CIMA’s ongoing advocacy for the independent music community, please get in touch with CIMA’s Research and Communications Coordinator, Lisa Fiorilli, by email at lisa@cimamusic.ca.
