We’re pleased to announce that CIMA President Stuart Johnston is currently in Washington, D.C. participating in the GRAMMYs on the Hill Advocacy Day. Stuart is attending the event alongside the Pacific-Northwest Chapter of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences- which features CIMA board member Nick Blasko (Amelia Artists), who will also be making the trip.

The GRAMMYs on the Hill Advocacy Day is an annual two-day event in Washington that “brings hundreds of music creators to Capitol Hill for an awards ceremony honouring artists and legislators who have improved the environment for music, followed by a grassroots lobby day during which Academy members meet with their members of Congress” [Grammy Website]. This grassroots lobbying event is now in its 11th year, and it’s the single largest annual advocacy day for the music industry in the US.

What are we doing at The GRAMMYs on the Hill? We’re working alongside our friends and colleagues at the PNW chapter of the Recording Academy on issues surrounding the US-Canada border – with the ultimate goal being making it easier for bands, artists and music companies to conduct their business on both sides of the border. This is an important research and advocacy priority for CIMA and our members, and the focus of our Accessing The US Market survey.
