The Canadian Independent Music Association (CIMA) is pleased to announce Big Sugar, Jesse Cook, Terra Lightfoot and The Sheepdogs are the latest recipients of CIMA‘s prestigious Road Gold certification. CIMA‘s Road Gold is awarded to those Canadian artists who have sold at least 25,000 tickets during their Canadian tour (s) over the course of any 12-month period, recognizing the hard work and dedication it takes to be a touring band or artist.
“On behalf of CIMA and our Board of Directors, I would like to congratulate Big Sugar, Jesse Cook, Terra Lightfoot, and The Sheepdogs on their incredible achievement,” said Stuart Johnson, President, CIMA. “By establishing an industry standard for an artist’s touring business, we are recognizing the hard work and dedication it takes to be successful on the road. Selling 25,000 tickets over the course of a year, speaks to the economic impact Canada’s touring musicians provide by filling venues from coast to coast.”
Canadian reggae rock sensations, Big Sugar continue to live up to their reputation for thundering live performances, embarking on a coast to coast tour in 2016 in support of their latest album release “Calling All Youth”. JUNO Award-winning platinum selling global guitarist Jesse Cook‘s latest album “One World” debuted at #1 on the Canadian Jazz and World Music charts, Cook followed that with a string of successful tour dates across the country. Set to release her new orchestral album “Live in Concert” on February 10, 2017, Terra Lightfoot‘s love of touring is beyond question, playing hundreds of live dates from cafes to coliseums to everything in between. From their cramped Saskatchewan jam space to the cover of Rolling Stone, Gold and Platinum records, 7 top 10 singles, sold out shows across Canada and fans across the world, The Sheepdogs have brought their brand of Canadian Rock N Roll to a global stage.
Touring the country tirelessly, filling venues, drawing crowds and engaging the music community in Canada is no easy task. Road Gold is a certification that celebrates these accomplishments, and establishes a new industry standard for touring as an additional measurement of success, proving artists are marketable beyond the scope of album sales.
Big Sugar, Jesse Cook, Terra Lightfoot and The Sheepdogs join previously announced Road Gold recipients to date, Matt Anderson, Big Wreck, Paul Brandt, Dean Brody, The Dead South, Colin James, Made Them Lions, The Trews and USS.
