Todays’ feature is on Jake Gold, the president and CEO of Toronto based The Management Trust, who has been an integral part of CIMA’s Board of Directors since 2009 and a longtime member of CIMA. He has sat on the Executive Committee since joining the Board and currently chairs CIMA’s Government Affairs committee. He continues to play a vital role in the strategic direction of CIMA as an organization.

Last week news broke that thirty-four years after first signing Canadian rock band The Tragically Hip, and helping to build them into one of the country’s most successful groups, Jake and the band have reunited after a seventeen-year separation. Jake recently spoke to Billboard Magazine about having spent three-and-a-half hours on a Zoom call with the band and stated that he felt like “not only is it their legacy but it’s a big of part of my legacy too.”

“In the words of Peaches and Herb, ‘We’re reunited and it feels so good,'” said the band in a collective statement. “We are all very happy to be back working with our original dance partner and architect, Jake Gold and The Management Trust.”

Speaking with the Canadian Press, Jake explained that he had kept in touch with the band members over the years and even attended some of the last shows on their final tour. Jake, the bands first ever manager, will work with them to review the archival output in recent years and release previously unreleased catalogue including videos, footage, tracks etc. Jake will also be managing the solo catalogue of frontman Gord Downie who passed away in 2017 of brain cancer.

“I believe the kind of assets, masters, intellectual property that the band owns, including their name, needs to be cemented in Canadian history,” he said to Billboard Magazine. “Part of that is to ensure that not only the legacy continues, but continues for years to come, not only for the band, but for their families.”

The team at CIMA want to extend a huge congratulations to Jake on this wonderful news and we look forward to following along with what comes next for The Tragically Hip!
