In August, 2016, CIMA filed a federal pre-budget submission with the House Standing Committee on Finance. CIMA thanked the government for increases to arts sector funding in 2016, and recommended that greater support be targeted to music in 2017, such as by increasing the Canada Music Fund and establishing a dedicated fund for music sector exports.
On December 7, the Committee’s report – Creating The Conditions For Economic Growth: Tools for People, Businesses and Communities – was tabled in the House. It advances both of the key recommendations proposed by CIMA above, and will be consulted by Finance Minister Bill Morneau as he decides what spending strategies to include in the next federal Budget 2017.
